About First Crack

A roast held
after dark

Since 2019 we have roasted a short list of coffee at 412 Foundry Lane — a warehouse room where a single hard light finds the drum and everything else falls to black.

The story

First Crack began with one drum roaster and a refusal to sell warmth. Coffee, roasted well, is a spectacle: high heat, the audible crack when the beans ignite, the dark-roast theater of a craft performed after hours.

So we stage it that way. We roast Tuesday and Thursday, log every batch, and keep the menu to three origins we can know cold. No daylight flat-lays, no latte-art romance — just the bean, the light, and the black around it.
